Books to help you live your best life
I have several books listed on my resources page and wanted to share a little more about some in this group. In the future I will share more about the ones I use in therapy and the parenting ones. I have really enjoyed…well no that is not always the right word, i have learned something from each one. They have impacted me in one way or another. I wanted to share them with you.
I Just wish i had a bigger kitchen
Trying to keep it real. This book helped me reign in a little my “I wants” that sometimes plagued me.
This was an excellent book about goals and systems and better ways to do them. You will hear me reference this book in several podcasts in fact I have it on my list to go back and read/listen to again
I wasn’t so sure about this one at first. I like Mel Robbins but sometimes from a therapeutic standpoint I feel she can dismiss certain things but she doesn’t cliam to be a therapist or psychologist. She is a dynamic speaker though and it has done well for her. Sometimes we all just need to count down from 5 and GO! Stop overthinking and all the things that get in our way. It is a good motivational tool ( and you know how I feel about motivation if you listened to my podcast, you can just rely on that, BUT it might just get you started and then you can tap into those systems and disciplines)
This book was very interesting for me because it helped me understand how others see things or approach things and why it can be different.
A book about choices made in an instant--in the blink of an eye—but of course are not as simple or instant as they seem. Why does it seem so easy for some and difficult for others. How is it that some people go with their idea and WIN and we think why could I not do that. And back to one of my favorite topics, the brain. How it works etc.
A book to assist you with financial decisions but told more like a story for all of us NON financial people. You may not become a millionaire reading it but it may help your with some planning and saving. It made me think and develop some better financial habits.
I love so many of her books, but this was one of my first and I really connected to the ideas
Ron Clark’s move your bus is a great book dealing with leadership, teamwork and identify the players. The drivers, the joggers, the riders, the walkers. Who are you?
A book to help retrain your brain (again you know I love brain stuff) how to be more positive and creative. A book to help you see your own way forward when you feel there isn’t one.
A lot of people are skeptical or judgmental of Rachel Hollis but I have to tell you I think some of that is jealousy. She isn’t perfect, I may not even agree with everything in her books but I love them and learned a lot from them. Some ideas I have carried with me and use on a regular basis. Some of the things she shared reminded me of practices I had stopped doing. When you hear me talk about writing down goals as if they have already happened. This is where I learned it.
While not as good (to me) as Girl wash your face, this was also a good read. I have so many clients that struggle with over apologizing or making themselves try to take up less space. Rachel empowers women to stand up and stand out and more
The body keeps the score ( audio version)
This book can be heavy. I definitely needed the audio book. I wanted the printed to reference though. SO much information here it is hard for me to summarize. Understanding how trauma effects you and your body, not just your brain is powerful. I have seen this in action over and over.
Talk to me: find the right words to Inspire, Encourage
A great book to help you in communication. Kim shares some wonderful insight and how to get the most out of communication. She is the co founder of the Ron Clark school. I think this is great for teachers, administrators, parents, or really anyone that uses the power of their words and wants to improve them.
This book had me laughing out loud for sure and I related so much. If bad language offends you, it might not be for you but for those of us that have said 100 times “jesus take the wheel” you will appreciate all the times you also tried to take that wheel back. She is real, yes she comes from a Christian perspective even though there is some language, in someways I felt like it made her more real and relatable. I honestly have a hard time reading some Christian authors that seem a little too perfect for me. I can’t get on board.
This was a great read. Jason Jaggard is awesome. I am already a fan of Novus Global and Meta Performance and had listened to a couple of his podcasts, which lead me to his book. I believe coaching can be very powerful but have seen lately how saturated it can become by people wanting to sell super expensive programs. I love the idea of coaching within my scope and plan to add that element to a couple things I do that don’t technically fall under counseling but can still benefit others. I love seeing how high performers can be great but also get in their own way and what it means to be a meta performer.
